The Battle of Hastings 950th Anniversary Lecture
Brigadier Hugh Willing for the Battle and District Historical Society (BDHS)
The time of this lecture – 13 October at 7.30 pm – was, exactly 950 years before, the eve of the Battle of Hastings.
With his military experience, Hugh will re-examine this most famous battle in English history and look at some of the controversies that surround it. Why did Duke William really want to invade England; can we be sure of how many ships and troops were in his invasion force, and did he actually land at Pevensey or was it nearer to Rye?
