Aged 14-25? Apply now to join The Giufà Project summer residency
June 21, 2018

Battle Festival invites applications from young people aged 14-25 for summer residency as part of The Giufà Project

Battle Festival is working with Glyndebourne, Opera Circus, and Crisis Classroom to produce The Giufà Project, and applications are now open for our residency at Battle Abbey School, 20 to 31 August.

Participants from across Europe will create new artwork and performances on the theme of migration as part of an exciting international collaboration spanning music, theatre, dance, parkour, visual art and film. They will work with an international team of professional artists to explore ideas around the theme of migration using any of the artistic disciplines on offer and creating work collaboratively. Artists include:

Omar Shahryar – Composer
Howard Moody – Composer
Judith Coleman – Singer
Lucy Bradley – Director
Laura Fatini – Writer/Director
Alister O’Loughlin – Parkour/Movement
Miranda Henderson – Dance/Movement
Tim Corrigan – Visual Art/Film

Together artists and participants will be creating and sharing work with the local community, including at a performance event held in Battle on Thursday 30 August.  Following the summer residency, participants are invited to return to Battle in the autumn for a performance as part of the Battle Festival.

The Giufà Project is named after a traveler and migrant who features in many European folk tales. Through these stories the project explores migration in the context of the mass movement of people taking place in the world today.
