Celebrating 60 years since the launch of Sputnik and the beginning of the Space Race, this year’s Astronomy and Space Exhibition is set for lift-off!
Our speakers: Melanie Davies, F.R.A.S. - “Astrology to Astronomy”; Greg Smye- Rumsby, astronomer at Greenwich Observatory - “Can we live on Mars?”; Bob Mizon, M.B.E., F.R.A.S. - “Ten great milestones in space – from Sputnik to the discoveryof exoplanets”; and Jane Green, F.R.A.S., astronomer and broadcaster on The Sky at Night. Finally we have “BLAST SCIENCE!”, an exciting family science show with local astronomer Brad Gross.
Some of the exhibitors: East Sussex Astronomical Society (ESAS) will also be offering solar viewing on the Abbey Green (weather permitting!); F1 telescopes with telescopes for beginners and experts; Sussex University planetarium shows; the British Interplanetary Society; theCommission for Dark Skies; Doug Edworthy, ESAS astrophotographer; Dr David Baker, Apollo engineer; and The Observatory Science Centre, Herstmonceux. We will also be welcoming Space Careers UK, who advise youngsters on how to enter the world of space!
We are grateful to Battle & Langton PTA who will be providing Cosmic Catering! There will also be a Moon Treasure Hunt to guess where great astronomical prizes land!
