St Mary’s Church

We are two relatively new local choirs and are delighted to be sharing this concert programme. The core purpose of both choirs is to enjoy singing in a social group and to practice and perform a variety of music from a wide range of styles and periods.

Battle Community Singers, founded in 2015, is a group firmly placed within the great tradition of all community choirs. We welcome everyone, regardless of musical experience and we enjoy singing an eclectic mix of songs from genres such as African, spirituals, jazz, pop, musicals, traditional, choral and folk. The choir is ably led by our Director of Music, Ailsa Vinson and our
accompanist, Stephen Page.

Whatlington Singers overall musical experience comes from a traditional choral and chamber singing background. Formed in early 2018, we work under the inspirational leadership of Musical Director Liz Bryson, and our accompanist Alison Boyd. Our programme will feature music by masters such as Vivaldi, Brahms, and Offenbach, as well as more recent pieces from, among
others, Kate Rusby and Keane. We are very pleased to be giving the first public performance of the latter’s ‘Sovereign Light Café’ from their album ‘Strangeland’, in a four-part arrangement by the composer’s brother, Tom Rice-Oxley.

We all look forward to a grand finale featuring both choirs.
