Battle Scarecrow Festival

Scarecrow Competition 2024

This year’s theme: Once Upon A Time

We are hoping to see Battle come to life again. All you need to do is create a fantastic scene illustrating your favourite character or story.

Think of the tales that you may have heard at bedtime, at school, on the radio or seen on tv or at the cinema.

The choice is endless – Sleeping Beauty, The Gruffalo, The Mad Hatter, Willy Wonka, Aladdin, Puss in Boots and more.

Let your imagination take us to another place and time.

Saturday 13th July – Sunday 28th July

Open to All (incl. Community and School Groups, Businesses, etc)

Prizes for the best entries to be awarded on Sunday 28th July

The closing date for entries is Monday 17th June

Conditions of entry

Your ‘Once Upon A Time’ scarecrow should be at least 2ft 6in high but no more than 5ft high (1.5 metres) and, to make the most of their time in this storybook land, please ensure that they are well protected from the weather. Unfortunately, continuous sunshine and gentle breezes are not guaranteed.

The committee will endeavour to keep your scarecrow safe but please check regularly to ensure that all is well.

We hope your imagination, artistry and skill will create the perfect photo!

Information

Scarecrows must be easily visible to visitors to Battle and the local community throughout the period of the competition – Saturday 13th to Sunday 28th July.

Front Garden

Any scarecrows that prefer to relax, play or stay in their own front gardens should be placed where they can be seen easily from the footpath.

Town Centre

T-shaped posts will be provided and placed around the Town Centre. All scarecrows who have requested Town Centre sites will be sent further details after the closing date for entries (Monday 17 June).
Please ensure that your scarecrow is securely attached to the post.
Note: Cable ties (obtainable from most garden centres) are very useful.

Business

In an effort to enhance the shopping experience for visitors to the town, local businesses should display their scarecrow entries in or by their shop windows/doors. Alternatively, you are welcome to dress your window to illustrate this year’s theme of ‘Once Upon A Time’.

Your scarecrow must be completed and in place by Saturday 13 July 2024.

Do not forget to attach your name to your scarecrow!
