Battle Scarecrow Festival

July 16th to August 6th

Now in it’s 14th year, the Battle Festival Scarecrow Competition has a new theme – ‘Top of the Crops” – The Music Festival for ‘Popstar’ Scarecrows. The star-struck scarecrows will complement Beautiful Battle’s Summer Flower Displays and act as a curtain-raiser to the wonderful Battle Festival which runs for three weeks from the 16 July 2022.

Alongside the colourful creations of the Yarn Bombers, our scarecrow ‘popstars’ contribute towards a festival that showcases the best summer floral displays that Battle has to offer… putting a smile on everyone’s faces!

It is hoped that at least 20 talented scarecrows will perform on the Abbey Green and in formal planted areas; in shop windows and outside business premises; and in private front gardens throughout Battle. This is the perfect way for you and your family to discover our beautiful town. There is always the occasional surprise when you find one grinning at you over the top of a hedge!

It is completely FREE to enter the competition and we will be awarding PRIZES to our favourite scarecrow entries.

Scarecrow Festival Entry Form

Conditions of entry

  1. Your ‘popstar’ scarecrow should be approximately 5ft high (1.5 metres) and, if it is to withstand 3 weeks outside, any materials used should be resistant to all weathers. Imagination will be key!
  2. Town Centre – If your scarecrow is designated a place in Battle’s Town Centre, we will let you know where to place your entry.

  1. Business – In an effort to enhance the shopping experience for visitors to the town, local businesses in the High Street should display their entries in their shop windows.
  2. Front Garden – Any ‘popstar’ scarecrows that prefer to perform in their gardens should be staged where they may be viewed easily by residents and visitors to Battle.
  3. Although the committee will endeavour to keep your scarecrow safe it is your responsibility to check regularly to ensure that this is so.
  4. Your scarecrow must be completed and in place by Friday 15 July 2022. Do not forget to attach your name to your scarecrow!
